Pledge Protection Act

109th Congress, 2nd Session

July 19, 2006

The Pledge Protection Act denies federal courts jurisdiction over interpretation of and the constitutional validity of the Pledge of Allegiance. Opponents consider such legislation antithetical to the rule of law and a political ploy. The bill passed 260-167 (5 not voting), with 39 Democrats including 6 Congressional Black Caucus members (Reps. Harold Ford, David Scott, Sanford Bishop, Al Wynn and Bennie Thompson) supporting passage. Details are in the table below and columns my be sorted by clicking on Sort in a column heading.
